Perri dapat inspirasi nulis A Thousand Years dari melihat langsung scene demi scene dari film Breaking Dawn Part 1. Karena dia sendiri fans dari film Twilight Saga, jadi pas nonton adegan-adegan itu dia ikutan nangis dan kebawa suasana. "When I screened the movie, it was definetely one of my favorite days ever", ucapnya.
Gitar akustik, piano dan string section membuka A Thousand Years. Seketika atmosfer romantis pun menyeruak. Seperti biasa, meski sebenarnya tidak terlalu luar biasa, namun vokal Perri dengan cemerlang menghembuskan emosi yang sangat intens pada lagunya. Sulit untuk tidak hanyut dalam lagu balada yang sangat romantis ini. Bermodal gitar dan string sections, vokal melankolis dari Perri semakin menambah sendu dari A Thousand Years.
